House names

An interesting element of the cultural history of the neighbourhood are house names. In a period that house numbers did not exist yet, houses were often described by their location or a characteristic element. Many owners used signs on the exterior to indicate the name of the house, and the people living there were used to refer to these houses by their name. It became part of the cultural urban fabric of a neighbourhood this way. The influence of Jewish religious culture is also noticeable in various house names such as "Temple of Solomon" and "Elias' Offer".

Various house names have preserved, here indicated.
