A partly demolished neighbourhood

As most of the inhabitants never returned after the end of the second world war, the neighbourhood turned into a partial ghost town. Regardless of massive protests, the city council decided to demolish all buildings. A new modern city hall and opera building was planned here, and constructed in the 1980s. The picture below shows the neighbourhood in a partial state of demolition. The open plots were temporarily in use as a large parking lot.
