The end of prosperity

Due to choices made in the project, the following century is not represented in this model. There are very few depictions of the neighbourhood dating to 18th century, as if the economic decline of the Dutch republic affected the desire of the artists to represent the city. The few images we have seem to suggest the neighbourhood was not going into decline right after the "golden age" of the Dutch republic ended. Nonetheless, these pictures may show a romanticised version of Amsterdam.
