A beautiful child II

In the holes, all around at the top of the head, bead strings could be inserted in accordance with the beads braided in children's hair. The holes at the level of the "ears" (cheeks) were intended for rings or pendants. The ends of both arms also have holes through which attributes such as beads could be hung. It is possible that the jewelry on these akua'ba was removed after use. Two necklaces, one blue and one black of (glass) beads are still present as well as a black beaded necklace around the hips. The back of the head on many akua 'ba is decorated with a complex (often geometric) pattern of lines. This akua 'ba features an undulating pattern of triangles with a vertical stripe pattern underneath. The exact meaning of these symbols is unfortunately unknown.
