The sculpture displays Maarten wearing a pair of black glasses as well as a smoking pipe. These two objects were signature pieces for Maarten, with which he has often been photographed. Reina also had her signature pieces, such as her cigars and little red hat.
Some of these signature pieces are on display in the basement of the museum, in the so called Stijlkamer (period room) or Zichtdepot (sight depot). Maarten's urn is also in the museum, so that he is always as close as possible to their art collection, even after death.
