Graanmarkt

This area is also called Korenmarkt (also meaning Grain Market) (in Latin, Forum Bladorum or Forum Segetum). The part of the street - the open space - between the choir of the Church of Our Lady and the Helstraat. In other words, the southernmost part of the current Stokstraat. This place is close to the Maas River and was where grain was traded. In the vicinity, there also existed the Wood Market (Houtmarkt), the Fish Market (Vismarkt), the Coal Market (Koolmarkt) and the Cherry Market (Kersenmarkt). The characteristic and freestanding café-restaurant 'La Bonne Femme', dating from 1696, is located on the Graanmarkt, with a view of the Maas River and the Wyck region of Maastricht.
