How do we acquire and preserve the figurine?

The tambourine figurine player is part of the archaeological collection stored at the Cyprus Museum of Natural History. It is displayed in the second showcase on the left side of the reception hall. Looking through the display, it is situated right at the top left corner, alongside other figurines from the Bronze and Iron Ages.
It belongs to the Photos Photiades Antiquity Collection, a private collection that gathers archaeological findings of the Cypriot culture, as well as geological and paleontological samples, and various species of Cypriot fauna.

The figurine was purchased by Photos Photiades in 1993, when it was acquired from Takis Phylactou. Likely, the figurine was already restored with the addition of the marble base at the time of the acquisition by Photos Photiades, as no additional information about its restoration has been found in the conservation catalogue.

The figurine, other archaeological findings, and the samples of the natural history of Cyprus were exhibited for the first time on the 29th of May in 1996, when the Cyprus Museum of Natural History was inaugurated. Nowadays, the Museum is handled under the patronage of the Public Benefit, Scientific, and Cultural Foundation ‘Photos Photiades’, which was founded in 1994 by the Photos Photiades Group.
