Since its founding in 1976, Maastricht University (UM) has gained increasing visibility in international higher education. In the 2024 Times Higher Education Young University Rankings, UM ranked 10th worldwide, with strong scores for international outlook and student diversity (Times Higher Education, 2024).
The university’s focus on interdisciplinarity and international engagement is also reflected in the QS Top 50 Under 50, where it placed 19th in 2021 (QS Top Universities, 2021).
Individual faculties contribute to this visibility. In the 2024 THE Subject Rankings, UM’s Faculty of Law ranked 19th globally, placing it among the top law faculties in the European Union (Maastricht University, n.d.-t).
These rankings reflect UM’s evolving profile within the landscape of international higher education, while continuing to grow as a relatively young university.
