Introducing Muffin: A Sauropod from the Jurassic Period

Muffin is a dinosaur that lived and died a VERY long time ago – in the late Jurassic Period of the Mesozoic Era (about 150 million years ago). As a member of the haplocanthosaurus genus, Muffin belonged to the "Gentle Giant" family of sauropods. Sauropods are characterized by their long necks, long tails, small heads and four thick, pillar-like legs. They are well-known for their vegetarian diet and enourmous sizes within the species. Within that family, Muffin would be considered a middle or smaller sized sauropod.

Unfortunately, we don't know how Muffin died. All we have are the remains of these bones from the hip and tail. Despite their lack of completeness, these remains offer a glimpse into the pre-historic life of sauropods like Muffin.
