Introduction

 The Kinora viewer and reel.

This 3D scholarly edition explores the Kinora motion photography viewer (1896-1914).

Introduced at the end of the 19th century, the Kinora was one of the earliest home cinema technologies. Using a flipbook mechanism, hundreds of paper-based photographs attached to a reel could be rotated and viewed through the Kinora. The 3D model in this edition represents a Kinora viewer and reel from circa 1907.

The original object is part of the media archaeological collection of the Luxembourg Centre for Contemporary and Digital History (C2DH). Explore more objects from this collection on Europeana.
