Replicating the Kinora

A working 3D replica of the Kinora viewer and reel was created at the University of Luxembourg. The aim of the Kinora 3D replica project was to apply 3D modelling and desktop manufacturing to gain a better understanding of how the Kinora system functions and how this early 20th-century home cinema technology was used.

The original Kinora viewer from circa 1907 served as the basis for the replication process. The Kinora replica was created as part of the research project Doing Experimental Media Archaeology (DEMA) at the Luxembourg Centre for Contemporary and Digital History (C2DH) in collaboration with the Department of Engineering at the University of Luxembourg.
