Replicating the lens hood and magnifying lenses

The Kinora’s lens hood contains two lenses that magnify the images. One lens is positioned in the middle; the other at the bottom of the lens hood.

To replicate the magnifying lenses, we used six prefabricated magnifiers with standard dimensions (50mm x 100mm) as a cost-effective solution. Although the dimensions of the prefabricated magnifiers differ from those of the original lenses, they performed similarly in focusing and enlarging the Kinora images.

Due to the new dimensions of the magnifying lenses, we slightly increased the size of the lens hood to ensure the magnifiers would fit the replica viewer. The lenses were placed inside the lens hood's plastic holders, which could be adjusted in height.

By using magnifiers with different magnification levels – ranging from 2x, 3x, 5x, 6x and 10x – we were able to test the optimal magnification and configuration of the two lenses inside the lens hood.
