TEMPORAL CLASSIFICATION

The Davy lamp from the Raedts collection was manufactured by the English maker Henry Watson of Newcastle and dates to around 1850. On the side of the base, the lamp features a small filling spout with a removable cap. However, this design makes the lamp vulnerable, as the spout can be easily damaged. In later models, after 1850, this spout was omitted, and the filling cap was integrated into the base of the lamp, along with the wick holder. The presence of the filling spout thus helps in dating the lamp.
