When a miner entered the mine grounds, he first had to report to the porter where he was given his personalized tag. He then walked to the changing/bathroom, where he changed his normal clothes for his working clothes. The next stop was the lamp room, also known as 'lampisterie' (in Dutch). He presented his tag and was given is lamp. At the end of his shift he returned his lamp to the lamp room.

In the 1960s there was self-service system in the lamp rooms regarding the attachable helmet lamps. This gave the miner a greater responsibility because he himself had to ensure that the lamp was charged. A miner entered the lamp room, found the lamp rack where his attachable helmet lamps hung lamp with his personal number and took it from the charging rack. At the end of the shift he returned his attachable helmet lamps himself. The batteries were automatically charged.
