This British attachable helmet lamp by Oldham & Son (manufactured between 1945 - 1960) is special in the relation- ship to Dutch mining. Lamps from this manu- facturer were mainly used in Belgian mines. Almost all Dutch mines did business with German mine lamp manufacturers. Immediately after the Second World War there was a great shortage of mining lamps. The advancing Germans had plundered mining companies and their lamp stocks. Also the German lamp factories lay in ruins after numerous bombing raids. Due to the lack of their usual German lamps, mining companies had to turn to other, foreign manufacturers, such as Oldham & Son. As an emergency solution and in the absence of better solutions, these lamps were used for several years until the mining companies were able to switch back to their usual lamps.
