Sources on family history: P.C. Hooft, Nederlandsche Historien (Amsterdam, 1677)

Catalogus librorum (…) Petri de Graaf (…), p. 22, no. 439 (Libri Miscellanei in Folio)

In the catalogue there are several important Dutch historians such as Pieter Cornelisz Hooft (who was Pieter De Graeff’s great uncle), Christianus Schotanus, Pieter Christiaansz Bor and Emanuel van Meteren.

Some of the books on Dutch history that are listed in Pieter de Graeff's book auction catalogue

As evidenced from archival sources, these books were part of the materials that Pieter consulted for his research on his family history. From his egodocuments it is clear that genealogical research and research into his family history were one of his keen interests, together with collecting coins and commemorative medals. In his family history manuscript (Groot Geslacht boeck), Pieter made marginal notes referencing several books by these and other historians, complete with precise page numbers. These served as references to obtain more comprehensive information or to confirm the events he was recounting. See for example the image below, where he noted the same books that appear in his auction catalogue.
