MOLAB's scientific analysis

Two different analytical campaigns (2005 and 2020) have been carried out on Codex Cospi as part of a research project jointly organized by the Library of the University of Bologna, the Department of History and Cultures of the University of Bologna, and the MOLAB mobile laboratory of the Institute for Cultural Heritage (CNR-ISPC), with the financial support of the Fondazione Carisbo.

During these campaigns, a series of different non-invasive analytical techniques (X-ray fluorescence, mid and near IR spectrometry, Raman spectroscopy, UV-vis absorption and emission, digital microscopy, macroXRF scanning, and hyperspectral imaging) were used to study the nature of the pigments used to paint the manuscript.
