Modern-day history has recorded the following figures as being 'real wizards' and having a decent political and religious influence on the public.
Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa von Nettesheim (1486-1535): He wrote the Three Books of Occult Philosophy and supposedly found a way to speak with angels.
John Dee (1527-1608/9): He was a British scholar of science and magic as well as an advisor to Queen Elizabeth I as a court astronomer. He also studied alchemy and divination. He developed the Enochian Language with the occultist Edward Jelly to speak with angels.
Éliphas Lévi (1810-75): Lévi was a famous French occultist, sage and socialist fascinated by tarot and ceremonial magic who trained to be a priest.
Grigori Rasputin (1869-1916): Advisor to Tsarina Alexandra, Rasputin claimed to be able to heal Alexei Romanov, the last heir of the Russian royal family, of haemophilia and was rumoured to be a hypnotiser. He was a Christian Orthodox.
Aleister Crowley (1875-1947): He is the most famous modern occultist who created a religious group called Thelema and declared himself as prophet. He authored many books about rituals and magick describing banishing and summoning spirits, astral projection, divination, 666 and satanism.
