While working with Metashape Afgisoft we noticed it was a faulty and hard program to understand. There were lots of troubles in regards to processing faults in the model and it generally took a long time to understand the software and perhaps actually enjoy using it. This was not the case for using PURE3D and Voyager.
PURE3D is a program that is currently being developed by the course coördinators of DCU4012 Creating Digital Collections 2023/2023 and it is "a national research infrastructure for the publication and preservation for 3D scholarship" (Maastricht University, 2024. p. 8). Another tool that we have used during the course and is integrated into the PURE3D software, is Voyager. Voyager is a software program that has been developed by the Smithsonian, which presents itself as "the viewing interface for 3D models" (Maastricht University, 2024. p. 8). Within the said program we are to create an interactive guided tour and through using the editing interface we have added tours, articles, annotations, camera movements and multimedia to support the multimodel contextualisation we want to apply to our model (Maastricht University, 2024).
We have thoroughly enjoyed using these programs, due to the clear instruction manual given to us by our course coördinators and a skills session where the basics of these programs were swiftly understood by us. The process of creating and curating these tours was straightforward and the program was very clear in itself. The only problems we have encountered are mostly related to the program being a little bit inconsistent with saving alterations if they were made. In conclusion, working with Voyager was much more enjoyable than working with Metashape as the user experience was more pleasant and other than it being inconsistent with saving our content it was a positive experience.
