The last step of creating this edition was saving our 3D model from Metashape and putting it into “Voyager” for us to be able to tell a story with our 3D models. “Smithsonian Voyager Story” is a prototype software part of the PURE3D project (Pure3D, n.d.) which we were able to use as part of the course Creating Digital Collections. This software was created for its users to tell stories with their 3D models using a number of features, we learned about these in the classes. The most important features are the annotations, articles, and tours that can be created. The annotations and articles can be used in the tours, which enable the audience to experience the 3D model in a museum tour manner. Furthermore, audio, images, videos, and links can be added to enhance the user experience.
In our edition we aimed to make the best use of these features. We created three tours: (1) Introduction to Ken, (2) Ken’s Socio-cultural Significance, and (3) The Process of Digitalising. In these three tours you can find the approximately twenty articles we wrote and annotations we created and placed on our 3D model. Furthermore, you can find an audio introduction we produced that introduces our edition.
Although Voyager still has some glitches here and there, we had a lot of fun using the features to make our 3D model come to live. Using Voyager is quite straight-forwards, and the instructions given to us were very helpful, therefore, it was not very complex to learn to use. We believe that we used the features well to enhance our 3D model and bring it to life for our audience.
