The final result

All in all, the 3D model does justice to the physical doll: it accurately shows the bright colours of the clothing, the textures of the different kinds of fabric and above all, the innocent playfulness the doll radiates. We tried to apply the affordances of the platform together with the 3D model to communicate the story of the doll in an effective, engaging way. By rotating the model to show a different side and feature of the object, annotating specific physical elements and displaying a map with the object, we allowed the model to tell its own story alongside the articles we wrote. These platform affordances work together to provide context for the physical features of the object, while at the same time, the 3D model is used to exemplify the information provided in the articles.

Despite the challenges along the way, we are pleased with the results we were able to achieve for the 3D model as well as the edition as a whole. The process taught us a lot about not only the practical challenges of photogrammetry but mostly about developing a substantial, coherent narrative, and how we can use and combine multiple media forms to communicate this narrative.
