To design the tour, we researched interesting themes and concepts. Through a Miro board, we brainstormed about the content, with a focus on E.T. The first tour would cover the context of E.T., including the film, his journey and Spielberg's motivations for directing the film. The second tour would focus on theoretical concepts from the tutorials, such as presence, aura and authenticity of the toy when digitised into a 3D model. There was one question central to these concepts: How does it change and how does this influence our perception of the toy?
E.T.’s cute and friendly aura is retained, as its cinematic presence and features are transferred to the 3D model. Moreover, by providing additional knowledge about the object, the model can even enhance its aura. However, E.T.’s presence does change. The 3D version has its own presence, separate from the physical toy. Next to that we experienced that the 3D model constitutes a new, authentic artefact because we can trace exactly how and by whom it was made.
