Looking Back on the Journey

Working on this project was an interesting experience where we learned many new skills. Neither of us had ever created a 3D model. Lauren has previous experience working with cameras, which was very helpful while capturing Pardoes. At the start, we were nervous about how the 3D model of Pardoes would turn out, as he seemed to be a difficult toy to capture. Placing and making sure Pardoes did not move was a big challenge. Due to the number of photos we took and used for the processing, the wait time was long. The model was not perfect, so we had to remake and improve some elements to increase the overall quality of Pardoes. In the end, the 3D model turned out really well and detailed. The Voyager software was new to both of us, and our experience with it had a lot of ups and downs because of errors and glitches. The biggest challenge was that we lost our work due to an error, which we were able to recover with help, but this took 3 days during which we were unable to work on our edition.

One of the best parts of working on this project was our field trip to the Efteling. During this trip, we explored the whole theme park with extra focus on the Symbolica ride which is a ride inspired by Pardoes and the world they built around him. Unfortunately, we were not able to meet the mascot in real life. We tried to make more 3D models in the park using photogrammetry to add in this edition, but this was not possible because of the placement of these objects. At the Efteling, they take great care in including every element in their design. You can see part of our field trip throughout this tour and in the video in this article.

We put a lot of time and effort into making the tours to take you on a magical journey. We hope you enjoyed exploring this scholarly edition of Pardoes.
