The 2005 Efteling Plush Pardoes
We are taking a closer look at the toy that we started this project with. Pardoes de Tovernar, the classic magic jester of Efteling, has been the symbol of magic and wonder for the park since 1989. Although he was the official park mascot, his character evolved through the years. The 2005 plush showcases one of his earlier sightings, before his transformation into a more "magical jester" following this period.
Size, Weight, and Structure
The soft and cuddly Pardoes stands 50 cm tall when erect and 46 cm when seated, which is the perfect size to stand and show off as well as hug. The plush weighs just 320 grams but is durable and strong, able to keep its shape even when sat upon. Joints at arms and legs provide a slight motion, thus making the plush interactive. Furthermore, an inside tube provides support and maintains the plush erect.
Design and Materials
The plush is a perfect representation of the classic version of Pardoes, made with colorful materials. His red suit is made of silky, smooth material, and his legs are covered with white material, just like his classic tights. His hands are made of a harder white material, giving the rest of the plush a touch of texture contrast.
The yellow bells on the metal-trimmed red shoes are a playful detail, jingling when moved. The gold buckle on the dark red belt adds a detail touch, and his red jester hat is topped with yellow bells, just like his shoes. The yellow cuffs and collar are soft material, topped with squishy, ball-shaped decorations, adding a fun, tactile detail.
The large white "E" on his chest signifies Efteling and is more resilient, suede-like in consistency as opposed to the softness of the plush's attire. His face, built with half-hard plastic, preserves his usual appearance: a smiley smile, large eyes, and a pink nose.
Tag and Origin.
This 2005 soft Pardoes was licensed and produced by House B.V. in Bussem. It is the look of Pardoes during the period when he was the official park mascot, prior to when he became the more magical jester look of the previous edition.
