Meet the Makers

This 3D Digital Scholarly Edition was created by Robin Langford and Romy van de Laar, students of the Master’s program ‘Media Studies: Digital Cultures’ of 2024/2025, as part of the course ‘Creating Digital Collections’.

Robin Langford

Hi, I’m Robin. I studied for a BA in Film & Television Production in the UK. I chose this Master’s programme because I’m interested in how digital media is shaping the world around us. One thing I particularly enjoyed about this course was the creative freedom it allowed in developing articles about Merida and her Scottish background. I enjoyed writing about Scotland having spent many summer holidays there as a child. The work was technically challenging but ultimately very rewarding.

Romy van de Laar

Hi! My name is Romy, I’m 23 years old and I completed a Bachelor’s degree in Communication Science at the Radboud University in Nijmegen in 2024. I chose to pursue the Master’s programme in Media Studies: Digital Cultures because of my interest in media and the desire to gain some more practical skills, which I felt were missing from my previous studies. This course really matched my expectations! I enjoyed it a lot, because it provided the practical experience I was looking for. I especially liked diving into the story behind Merida and writing short articles about her cultural and feminist background. The technical side of creating the 3D model did not quite suit me, although that may also have had to do with the complexity of the toy we chose. Still, the project overall was a very valuable and enjoyable experience!
