Voyager - A Welcome Reward

Having our 3D model put into Voyager was only the first of many steps to come to a satisfying experience. The first look was rather devastating, the imperfections were much more noticeable in the well-lit presentation area of Voyager. Also, the doll was lying flat on her belly instead of standing up when the page had loaded. So, we changed the doll's position to upright and adjusted the lighting so that the uneven skin did not stand out. Further, to complement the doll, we switched up the background color to something lighter.

The Model after the first Adaptions

After these cosmetic changes, we got started on making the first annotations. Through the annotations, different objects and parts of the doll can be pointed out. For both tours, this is a helpful feature. In the first tour, this is used to exemplify the various parts of the costume the doll wears. The second tour uses similar annotations to further point out characteristics of the face and body throughout the model.

We went on to create our tours, first by outlining the different steps the tour will have. While working on the steps of the tour, we also went back and forth with adapting the annotations and trying out other features of Voyager. In order to create a more graphic experience we decided to add additional 3D models. The map on which the doll is placed, to visualize her origin is one of these additional models. Other additional models are the tour headings and exemplifying objects that are placed beside the doll throughout the tours. The models were created in the 3D modeling program Blender and then uploaded to Voyager by our tutor.

While everything came together nicely and the tours are working out great, the feeling of accomplishment is a welcome reward for the journey. Working with Voyager was easier than the hassle we encountered with Metashape. The program is a bit more intuitive and adaptive. Still, it has its quirks and we had to get familiar with specific processes. This was made easier by the support we received from our tutors and classmates. Being in this together and all working on our projects we were able to rely on each other as well as on the advice of the tutors as we positively noticed.
