The wooden coffee maker was the first object we tried to digitalize. In this process, we took around 40 pictures of the object and fed them into Metashape. Immediately it was clear that the program was not able to pick up the object because of the flat surface and the smooth pastel colors. The pictures were not able to align properly and create the model, instead we were only able to see singular dots that formed something like a coffee maker. This threw us for a loop and was disappointing because the coffee maker was already our second choice, which was not viable.
Because of this frustration, we dropped the coffee maker, and when the Dutch doll was suggested as a feasible object for digitization, we decided to proceed with it. The doll's detailed structure led us to expect that photographing the 3D model would be an easy process. This time after taking and transmitting around 30 pictures we were already able to see the model forming in Metashape. The tricky part with taking the pictures was to keep the object still because of its soft fabric and hair. Only with minimal movement, the program can create a coherent object. Looking at the model we have succeeded in overcoming this obstacle. Throughout this additional session, as well as during the whole course we were supported by our tutors. This was very helpful to get us started after this rough first try to digitalize the coffee maker.
