When looking at the Schleich catalogue from the year the Dragon Rider was released, one can see that the figure can be found under the name of Bayala, which is the magical world of Schleich. It is one of many toy lines that Schleich markets their figures in, others include the world of nature or the world of history. While these other two categories include toys that are realistic-looking replicas of diverse animals or historical figures like knights, dinosaurs, or gladiators, Bayala is fantasy-based. Therefore, this branch consists of fairies, dragons, and smurfs. When Schleich launched Bayala in 2011, they described it as a world filled with mysterious characters (Schleich 2011, 2011). Further, they invite children to experience adventures with a variety of figures in their magical world. When looking at Schleich’s website today one can see a clear shift. Although the farm world, Bayala, and the dinosaurs are still part of Schleich, most historical characters are removed from their catalogue. Instead, Schleich added new worlds such as Eldrador, which includes creatures such as dragons and monsters. The original dragons and their companions are not to be found on the Schleich website anymore.
