Important Middle Eastern Dragons

There are several dragons from Middle Eastern culture that are important to point out, since they appear in important scriptures and are depicted as crucial in several myths. The first of these is Falak (The Falak Dragon Narrated By The Qur’an — Steemit, z.d.-b), an important creature in the Qur’an which can be described as one of the most important books in the Middle East due to it being the basis of the Islam, ,similar to the Bible in Christianity. The Qur’an describes a creeping creature, which Islamic scholars believe to be a dragon because of the reptile characteristics that are presented (The Falak Dragon Narrated By The Qur’an — Steemit, z.d.-b). Falak in Islamic culture is a dragon that lives in the fire realm and is feared by the gods. Falak is a creature of hell whose job is to torture humans, which makes him similar to other Middle Eastern dragons that are described as malevolent beings. Another dragon that is very famous because of the old testament is Leviathan, who in most Middle Eastern myths is a giant winged sea serpent. There are many myths that describe leviathan as a world carrying serpent (Untangling Bahamut, Behemoth And Leviathan, z.d.), making it a creature with a very important task. These myths show us that dragons have always been present in our culture, not only in Fantasy but our mythology and religion as well. The Middle Eastern dragons have very deep origins, and when dragons are being discussed this part of the world should not be forgotten but instead remembered and studied for further knowledge about the creatures.
